The book Statistical Methods for Agricultural Sciences is primarily written for undergraduates in the agricultural sciences. Over the years of teaching, other instructors and I have been using texts that were primarily aimed at students of economics and business. This book has a number of features which are intended to enhance both interest in and mastery of agricultural statistics. First, emphasis is placed on the practical application of statistics. Theoretical background is included to enable better understanding and application. The text gives examples from all areas of agriculture to show the relevance of statistical techniques to our field. Second, each chapter begins with a set of learning objectives which orients the student to the learning criteria of that specific chapter. Third, the chapters are organised into various subsections, each subsection representing a unit of mastery based on incremental learning. It is a first introductory text to present statistical concepts through practical applications in all areas of agriculture. In the Appendix a number of statistical tables are provided which are reprinted from other works. The mathematical derivations of these tables are beyond the scope of this text. Each chapter described in detail to grasp the concept easily. Relevant examples included to make the theoretical background more easily understood. Learning objectives and summaries for each topics covered will aid the student in mastering agricultural statistics. The text's simple, non-mathematical language requires only familiarity with elementary algebra and mathematical notations.
